Supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals
ILSC's work supports the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. ILSC is formally associated with the UN Department of Global Communications.
Good Health and Well-Being
ILSC's diagnostics and research target goals to reduce maternal mortality, reduce premature deaths from non-communicable diseases, and expand access to affordable essential health care. Preeclampsia is one of the leading causes of maternal death, especially where it is detected late.
Partnerships for the Goals
ILSC brings together universities, NGOs, governments and the private sector to share science, technology and knowledge. Its data initiative supports high-quality, timely and reliable health data for developing countries.
Global Health Series
From 2014 to 2017, ILSC hosted free public programs at the United Nations in New York on topics including SDG 3, antibiotic resistance, and climate change and children's health. New programs are planned for 2027.

Aligned with WHO guidance
ILSC's approach follows the direction of the World Health Organization's 2024 package of interventions for sickle cell disease management. The WHO calls for earlier detection of complications, stronger data management and research, and special care for vulnerable groups, including young children, adolescents and pregnant women.
